GAESTEN II

Sale Price: £85.00 Original Price: £115.00

To frighten. To torment. To haunt.
Gaes·ten / n. (Old English gæst, “spirit, guest” + suffix -en)
A spectral presence; a ghostly or supernatural visitor.
Figurative: an unexpected influence, memory, or echo from the past that lingers.

The Presence Returns — Rebuilt.

GÆSTEN II is not an update.
It is a reconstruction.

Reimagined from the ground up inside our new Vector Engine, GÆSTEN II transforms the original instrument’s philosophy into something more fluid, more controllable, and far more alive. Where the first incarnation focused on duality, GÆSTEN II expands the concept into motion, space, and interaction — allowing sounds to evolve, collide, and drift in ways that feel less programmed and more possessed.

With four independent samplers, an interactive XY blending system, and new movement-based modulation, GÆSTEN II is designed for composers, producers, and sound designers crafting unsettling textures, shifting atmospheres, and deeply expressive sonic environments.

An instrument not just for layering sound — but for setting it in motion.

A Library Born From Unease

At its core remains the original GÆSTEN source material:

  • On-set recordings from the infamous Fright House

  • Metallic resonances, strained objects, and captured architectural ghosts

  • Unused acoustic recordings, repurposed and reshaped

  • A library of 100+ drones and textures and 90+ organic layers

These sounds were never meant to remain natural. They were stretched, reversed, fractured, and reassembled — retaining just enough reality to feel familiar, while becoming something altogether more disturbing.

The Vector Engine

At the centre of GÆSTEN II lies the Vector Page — a dynamic XY environment where four samplers can be blended simultaneously.

Rather than static layering, the Vector pad allows you to move through sound:

  • Blend seamlessly between four loaded sources

  • Instantly randomise sample combinations

  • Introduce evolving motion with the new Movement Engine

Movement can follow controlled square or circular paths, with adjustable speed and depth, or be pushed into unpredictable behaviour using the Random mode. A secondary, subtle drift function adds organic evolution — perfect for cues that need to feel alive without drawing attention to modulation.

Sound is no longer switched.
It is travelled through.

Four Independent Samplers

The Layers Page provides direct access to each of the four samplers, allowing precise shaping of every sound source.

Each layer includes:

  • Independent sample loading

  • Adjustable start and stop positions

  • Looping and reverse playback

  • Per-layer pitch bend enablement

  • Individual shaping controls for detailed sound design

Every sampler is its own fragment of the whole — stable alone, but far more powerful in interaction.

OCCsilate — Expanded

A favourite feature from the original instrument returns, now fully integrated across all four samplers.

Each layer now includes its own OCCsilate modulation system, offering:

  • Step-based modulation control

  • Tempo-synchronised or free-speed movement

  • Selectable rate divisions via dropdown control

  • Independent behaviour per sampler

This allows anything from subtle tonal instability to aggressive rhythmic animation.

Effects Designed for Degradation and Space

The FX Page gives each sampler its own processing chain, alongside global spatial effects:

Per-layer processing:

  • High-pass and low-pass filtering

  • Saturation for harmonic damage

  • Chorus for smear and instability

Global effects:

  • Tempo-syncable delay

  • Convolution reverb for physical and unreal spaces

Whether pushing sounds forward or dissolving them into the background, the effects stage is designed as a continuation of transformation — not polish.

Built for Workflow

The redesigned interface has been completely overhauled to be cleaner, faster, and easier to navigate, shaped directly by user feedback from the original release.

The Settings Page includes practical tools such as:

  • Adjustable UI scaling / zoom

  • Custom sample location management

  • System-level configuration options

Everything is built to stay out of the way of creativity while remaining immediately accessible when needed.

A Philosophy of Motion

If GÆSTEN was about duality, GÆSTEN II is about evolution.

Fear rarely arrives all at once. It emerges, shifts, retreats, and returns. GÆSTEN II embraces that behaviour — allowing sounds to drift between states, never static, never entirely predictable.

It is an instrument of tension, memory, and transformation.

Designed to frighten.
To torment.
To haunt.
