SPLINTERED: Cello
The Third Instrument in the Splintered Series
A cello pulled apart and pieced back together through modern processing and raw performance.
Splintered Cello explores the darker, grittier edges of this classic instrument — captured intimately, pushed through distortion, layered with breath, grain and bow noise. It’s fragile. It’s fierce. It’s full of unexpected life.
Like the rest of the Splintered series, this library walks the line between traditional performance and experimental sound design — ready for cinematic scoring, ambient composition, or sonic ruin.
The Cello Panel
A collection of expressive long textures and percussive shorts built from extended cello techniques, played on the bridge, tailpiece and harmonics as well as shorts played on the bridge, traditional pizzicato and short harmonics.
The FX Panel
Borrowing the layout from Splintered Soundboard, this panel provides a set of bold and cinematic sound design elements including Hits, forceful strikes on the cello body and strings. Bends, downward pitch-bending phrases. Risers, gradual rising textures built from raw recordings and Whoosh, designed whoosh effects made from acoustic cello gestures.
The Scapes Panel
A deep dive into abstract cello manipulations and evolving textures, featuring unstable, textured long tones from bowing the bridge. Odd, unpredictable cello phrases and moments. Random pitch slides, dramatic and expressive. Rhythmic and chaotic body taps. Bouncy, random ricochet bow techniques and evolving, processed versions of the long tones
