OBSCURA

Ob·scu·ra / n. From the Latin obscurus.

Hidden. Shadowed. Difficult to fully perceive.

Small in size. Vast in atmosphere.

OBSCURA is a compact drone and texture instrument built for composers, producers, and sound designers who need instant atmosphere without complexity.

Created as an introduction to the Occult Audio sound world, OBSCURA strips the process back to its essentials: select a sound, shape it, and explore where it leads.

Ten carefully designed drones form the heart of the instrument, ranging from subtle evolving ambiences to unstable textures, fractured harmonics, and darker cinematic material. Simple on the surface, but capable of far more than its size suggests.

A collection built for atmosphere

OBSCURA focuses on a curated set of evolving drones designed to work immediately inside a project.

Every sound was chosen to provide character, movement, and depth without requiring extensive programming or layering. Whether used as a foundation beneath a cue or as the starting point for further manipulation, the sounds are designed to inspire quickly.

Some drift quietly in the background.

Others refuse to stay still.

Simple controls. Immediate results.

OBSCURA places the focus on exploration rather than complexity.

Each sound is displayed within an interactive waveform view, allowing you to adjust playback positions, create new variations, and reverse material instantly. Combined with filtering, saturation, and reverb, a single drone can become something entirely different within seconds.

The result is an instrument that encourages experimentation without getting in the way of creativity.

Designed for scoring and sound design

OBSCURA is equally at home creating subtle atmospheres, dark cinematic underscoring, horror textures, ambient layers, and experimental soundscapes.

Whether you’re building tension, adding depth to an existing cue, or searching for the spark of a new idea, OBSCURA provides a fast and accessible starting point.
