GÆSTEN II

Gæs·ten / n. Old English — a spectral presence. An echo that lingers.

Not an update. A reconstruction. Built to move, breathe, and unsettle.

GÆSTEN II was rebuilt from the ground up inside a new engine — not because the original failed, but because it deserved to become something more. Where the first instrument explored duality, this one explores motion. Sound that drifts, collides, evolves, and decays without you ever losing control of it.

Four independent samplers. A dynamic XY blending environment. A movement system that makes your textures feel inhabited. GÆSTEN II is not layering software — it’s a system for setting sound in motion, designed for composers who need atmospheres that feel genuinely alive.

A library born from unease

The source material starts on-set — recorded inside the Fright House. Metallic resonances, strained objects, architectural ghosts caught on tape. Added to these are a library of unused acoustic recordings: stretched, reversed, fractured, and reconstructed until they retained just enough reality to feel familiar, and just enough wrongness to feel threatening.

Over 100 drones and textures. Over 90 organic layers. None of them were ever meant to remain natural.

The Vector Engine

At the centre of GÆSTEN II is the Vector Page — an XY environment where all four samplers exist simultaneously, and you navigate between them rather than switching. Blend seamlessly across the pad. Randomise combinations instantly. Introduce movement with circular, square, or unpredictable random paths, each with adjustable speed and depth. A secondary drift function adds subtle organic evolution for cues that need to feel alive without the modulation showing.

Four samplers, full control

The Layers Page gives you direct access to each sampler independently — start and stop positions, looping, reverse playback, per-layer pitch bend, and individual shaping controls. Each layer is a self-contained fragment: useful alone, transformative in combination.

OCCsilate — expanded

The modulation system from the original instrument returns across all four samplers. Step-based, tempo-syncable, with selectable rate divisions per layer. Use it for subtle tonal instability, rhythmic animation, or anything in between. Four layers, four independent behaviours.

Effects built for transformation

Per-layer processing includes high-pass and low-pass filtering, saturation, and chorus. Global effects include a tempo-syncable delay and convolution reverb. The effects stage is designed as a continuation of the instrument’s philosophy — not polish, but further transformation.
